Diabetes is a group of diseases that shares the common characteristic of high blood sugar (glucose) levels, hence resulting defects in insulin production, insulin action, or both.

It is estimated that diabetes is one of the most common illnesses which affect around 6.5% of the United States’ population. Figures shows that each year around 1.3 million people aged 20 or older are diagnosed with diabetes. This figure continues to rise each year with more people being diagnosed with this illness.

In many cases, if diabetes remains undetected or untreated properly it can cause loss of vision, kidney diseases, amputations, and heart disease and can be life threatening and a lifelong condition.

The good new is diabetes can be control if proper treatment is taken place.
