What is Diabetes?
Diabetes is a group of illness characterized by the high levels of blood sugar (glucose) level in your body due the defects in insulin production, insulin action or both.

Insulin is a hormone secreted by your pancreas. Its main function is to regulate your body’s blood sugar levels. Insulin is the key to break down the door of the cells so sugar contain in the food we eat can be converted into energy. If an incorrect or abnormal amount of insulin is produce, the sugar we eat will build up in the blood causing your blood sugar (glucose) levels to increase. Hence, you have diabetes. |
If diabetes is not controlled properly it can cause serious complication and premature death in babies. The good news is diabetes can be control if you seek the correct treatment.
The most common symptoms of diabetes are:
- Frequent urination
- Excessive thirst
- Excessive hunger
- Often feeling tired or ill
- Sudden weight loss
- Blurred visions
- Slow healing of cuts and infections
